Hoft, a friend sent the following quote after i told her instead of watching election results, i planned cleaning the house.

My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being,
hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

We're all a bit stressed Confused

There seems no stopping this meltdown in the North Pole. Polar bears will have to move to dry land..

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39502000/jpg/_39502525_polar-bears-ucl_203l.jpg

... and Europeans will have to live in temperatures habitual to Canada's Northern Territories, because the Gulf Stream will be overwhelmed by the cold waters of the Labrador current. I don't know what will happen to the tropical rainforest regions.

Morning HofT,
Yes, global warming is a concern we should all be aware of. It seems that most people just want to be left alone and live their lives without having to worry about outside events that may affect them. But, I guess we have a double edged sword of events affecting us all now - the natural and normal warming of the earth cycle, and the unnatural and not normal warming we humans are causing to happen.
It is possible we could become extinct too. After all, that is the normal set of circumstances throughout the known universe.

Other than the Earth is crumbling - all is well. <G>

All clicked.

Good morning Danon. The only consolation is we will be able to watch by satellite

Notice btw in that allegedly environmental site they seem to support fishing mahi-mahi, an greatly endangered fish species. On global warming there's nothing we can do, but limiting populations and poisonous carbon emissions is achievable.

PS that's a pic (in artificial color) of the ocean off the Carolinas. Gulf Stream in red, Labrador current in blue.

I agree with you HofT re the limitation of pops and carbon - that was one of the major things that attracted me to John Kerrys ambitions - he, along with saving our natural resources, advocated development of alternate fuels that would not detrimentally affect our Earth.

There's no need to "develop" nuclear energy - we've been generating power with it for decades. The groups supporting Kerry for the most part are opposed to additional nuclear plants.

Any technical person who's studied the subject will tell you we have no commercial alternative at current energy prices.

I too am opposed to additional nuclear facilities - I wasn't/am not aware that Kerry talked about that. I'm in favor of his development of safe alternate fuels such as hydrogen & fuel cell technology.

Prices for new technology is high at first then it tends to go down as supply increases.

Danon and Hoft,

There is good news from Colorado reagarding reusable energy. In the first-ever opportunity for citizens to
vote on renewable energy standards, UCS and a coalition of groups in the state secured a victory that requires utilities to provide 10 percent of their electricity from wind, solar and other clean energy sources by 2015. Much like the historic climate change regulations we recently helped to pass in California, this success will be an effective tool for leveraging clean energy and clean air initiatives in other states and at the federal level.

Danon, I've been working for the envrionment and animals rights for many years. We begin with a plan, follow with action, and work like hell for positive solutions.

"Wishful thinking" isn't in the equation.
