Edit Moderator: Moved from English to Other Languages.
Is there a word in English that means what 'tocayo' does in Spanish.
Tocayo is a people that has the same name as another one.
I could say I have lot's of tocayos here in A2K because of the abundance of Joes.
I can't think of a like word in English Joe.
Yeah, me neither. I even did a quick search in free translators on the net and nothing, that's why my desire to know (D2K) grew.
Thanks InfraBlue. It'd been some years I had with that doubt.
Although isn't a namesake someone who someone else is named after, not just someone with the same name. I don't think there's a translation.
Just saw this thread.
Yes, that's the word.
For your information, in german it means like "Namensvetter".
btw, panz haha a avatar from Gus...
Namesake, alright, but you don-t go around telling your friend (who happens to have your same given name): "Hi, namesake, how's your day?"
"Tocayo" has warmth into it.
I see fbaezer, when I looked the definition to verify it didn't seem like I could give the english word the same use as 'tocayo'. And that was precisely what I wanted it for. Oh well.
thanks for the link pumpmeup... I only relied on

Hey Joe, or anyone.
One of my favorite Argentine folk songs is difficult for me to translate for it has some misspellings and some slang that I don't recognize...can you translate it for me and Cavfancier?
Algarrobo algarrobal
cuando cantan los coyuyos
me dan ganas de llorar,
de puro gusto vidita
porque llega el Carnaval.
Algarrobo algarrobal
las vidalas(sp?) por la noche
salgo a cantar y a llorar
con el tarnbor(sp?) de la luna
y el amor de Carnaval.
Algarrobo algarrobal
que gusto me dan tus ramas
cuando empiezan a brotar.
Cuando empiezan a brotar
seƱal(sena?) que viene llegando
el tiempo del carnaval.
I'd love to, I had to look up the argentinian words those are marked with (?). This is a very literate translation:
Carob tree, carob tree planting site
When the haverst bugs (?) sing
I feel like crying
Out of joy, my life (my life is referring to a person)
because the carnival arrives
Carob tree, carob tree planting site
the wild song (?) on the night
I go out to sing and cry
With the moon's drum (assuming tarnbor is tambor)
and the carnival's love.
Carob tree, carob tree planting site
what joy your branches give me
when they start sprouting.
When they start sprouting
sign that it's getting closer
the time of the carnival.
No problem waterbelly... btw carob tree was also meant to be marked with (?)
