bmo, the Indo-European root for "fas" is *dhe-1 (that "1" needs to be hiked up, but I don't know how to type it that way), which gives a whole passel of words, too numerous to list here. Go to a good etymological dictionary and look up "dhe-1" to find the entire list.

Hi,

Thanks a lot, I will look it up. I think it should be in American Heritage Dictionary.

Yes, bmo, the AHD is exactly the one I was thinking of; I have one that's about 20 years old and that has 50 pages worth of I.E. roots in it; the *dhe-1 root has a whole string of "-fact" and "ficient" words (all related to the "fas" ones by "great-grandpa" morpheme).

Good luck! Smile

Thanks. Mine is over 20 years old too. I believe AHD is the only dictionary with IE roots included in the appendices. I love it.

Have a great weekend.
