Boss (and ex-lover) read suicide note to employee

My friend attempted to end her life due to the emotional stress of the relationship with her boss/ex-lover. 911 was called and she was hospitalized. A note was left by her to her boss/ex lover. She survived. He fired her reasons that were not clear.
She reached out to a coworker and he told her how the boss read her attempted suicide note outloud to him at work. He said it was weird and he felt awkward.

My friend is now facing homelessness and I fear she may try to take her own life again.

Can her boss get away with this?

I think the boss guy is a snake. I tend to see any authority figure as snakes

Well, she doesn't have clean hands anyway, but it's a start. Certainly it's a mess. If there's no satisfaction to be had via HR, etc., there's always going to the press. A local consumer affairs reporter might not mind running a piece on such an insensitive lout.

Perhaps the boss needed a witness of the letter to justify firing her.

He really had no choice. The behavior of both of them jeopardized the office.

He threw her under the bus but she was co responsible for losing her job. I hope she went on medical leave.
