I am back! (Thanks for noticing!)

Don't worry, LordE. I was in Dominica, not the Dominican Republic. Two entirely different places. Ate sunripened pineapples, picked mangos and guavas right off the trees, saw wild parrots in the rainforest, wore orchids in my hair, and enjoyed every single minute of it. What a trip!

Do hope you're enjoying your nice, clean carpet, btw. (Who was that woman?)

He'd probably hate being called a splendid fellow, so I'll be more circumspect.

You guys were all so nice to welcome me home after my trip last week...

So I'm leaving again! Laughing

Tomorrow morning hubby, son and myself are leaving for two weeks. This time it's a family vacation. Our son has spent the last two years in Social Studies learning about early American history, so we're taking him to Washington D.C., Williamsburg, etc. It's the perfect time.

It will be hot there, but not as hot as here. It was 104 today in Tulsa.

I'll be back on Aug. 5.

Have fun without me! (Not too much fun...I'd hate to come back and find out anybody's been banned!)

Ciao!

We had a great time when we went to Washington in the late eighties. My favorite memory was walking the mall around eleven or twelve at night... holding hands and almost crosscountry skiing on the grass...

We also went down to RealJohnBoy's territory, Charlotteville, to see Monticello.

Hmm. Rode the elevator to the top of Hotel Washington - nice view...
Well, I like checking out hotels. We went into the Warwick, an oldie, and looked at the old bar; into the Mayflower, where my dad stayed when I was a child; into the Hays, which was very hush hush in the lobby, I gather a vip type of hotel, or it was; into the Ritz Carlton for a drink - and remember as we did that that the headlines were all about police and picketers about AIDS. Went into the Dolly Madison, a favorite of a very political friend of a friend, who we lunched with in Georgetown. I just plain love hotels. We, on the other hand, stayed at the rather run down and inexpensive Howard Johnson's, which was across the street from The Watergate. Pretty handy location though.

Let's see, we did the National Gallery, the Archives, the Capitol Bldg, the Hirschorn (sp?) - but not the Smithsonian. I'd been there before and hub felt like walking, which fit my mood too. Walked to the Building Museum, but it was closed. Checked out Union Station.

Two more favorite places were Beatrice Farrand's Dunbarton Oaks, a really fine garden in Georgetown - and the Vietnam Memorial, very strong experience, strong design.

You and your husband have probably been there before - just vicariously enjoying that you're doing this.
