Edit [Moderator]: Moved from Reference to Other Languages.

Bit of a weird one this: Can anyone tell me the latin words for 'maple' & 'ash' (as in types of wood)?

Thanks!

"Maple" is "acer"--it comes up frequently in crossword puzzles. What kind of ash tree do you have in mind?

I googled "ash tree" Latin name:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Latin+translation+%22Ash+tree%22&btnG=Google+Search

and found lots of kinds of ash trees.

A search for botanical names:

http://project.bio.iastate.edu/trees/campustrees/index_common.html

more variety!

From that botanical list "Fraxinus" seems to be the generic name for ash trees.
