Israel, Palestine, and the international community

I want to get a discussion going here about the international communities role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Does the only hope for peace in the region rely on the United Nations and other forms of international institutions? Or will the conflict work itself out better without the interference of the United Nations? I welcome all different points of view, I myself have not come to any firm conclusion on the question myself and I think this would be an excellent forum to think about, learn, and possibly solidify some viewpoints about the subject.
