Hi everyone,
I need some help with the grammar and overall structure of my science paper. Please feel free to point-out any errors and suggest some corrections in my sentences.
The least effective action taken to reduce acidity was ‘adding lime, a base, to the lakes to neutralize the acid’ in Lohi Lake. Although the treatment showed a dramatic increase in pH, it proved to be a temporary relieve for the lake’s acidity, and due to little reduction in SO2 emissions, Lohi Lake’s pH dropped once again. Hence, this approach requires multiple applications of lime in order to fully restore an acidified lake. (harm to animals, time consumption, and cost?)
Hannah Lake, rising from a pH of 4.31 in 1973 to 7.31 in 2006, showed the most improvement in pH level. ‘Adding limestone to the soil around Hannah lake’ was cost-effective because it, not only restored the acidified lake, but also promoted substantial plant growth in the region. Moreover, this approach brought far greater change to the pH of Hannah Lake in comparison with the other two approaches used to the reduce the acidity of Clearwater and Lohi Lake.
‘Reducing sulfur dioxide emissions’ in Sudbury will have the greatest overall effect on the acidity of it lakes. The sulfur dioxide (SO2(g)), a non-metal oxide, combines with water (H2O(L) to form sulfuric acid [H2SO4(aq)], which results in acid precipitation (the primal cause of acidified lakes). The acid rain poses additional risks to both the terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems, as well as human health. Therefore, reducing sulfur dioxide emissions will combat the effects of acid precipitation, in addition to neutralizing the lakes near Sudbury.
Thank you in advance!!
