What subject is your NVQ, toniotay? I'm doing a BTEC NAtional Award at the minute, but only part-time 'cos I'm at work as well.

PS. Welcome to A2K!

A worthy set of courses aimed at people who want qualifications better suited to getting a job, rather than purely academic. My BTEC is in Construction, but I can build it up in modules over about 5-6 years all the way to a Batchelor of Science, (w/ Honours). Cool.

Gotcha. Sort of like a college program here, vs. a university degree. More practical (and often more directly useful).

Good way to go.

Yeah. I went to university at 18, but couldn't get into "learning for learning's sake" and messed around for 3 years. This way suits me better as my employer pays for the course, gives me a day-off each week to attend, and getting pay-rises for passing is a definate incentive to study for a mercenary soul such as myself!

Are you studying full-time, or do you work as well?

That's like community services, isn't it? There's always a lot of demand in that field. Do you have to specialise ( aged care, children's services, disability studies etc) or is it general.

You'll do fine. Except for the usual generic advice (dress neatly, pay close attention to the needs of the client, try to be as helpful as possible and don't be afraid to ask questions) , if you are working in the community services it pays to carry an extra set of clothes ( or at least a t-shirt ( and a bra, if you are female)) in your bag. Chances are that you are going to get covered in vomit, urine, food, etc, at least once.
