pammy--

Welcome to A2K.

What is nvq2? Can you be a bit more specific about the nature of the abuse?

Noddy, if I am correct, nvq2 refers to this: http://www.aureliatraining.com/course_11.html which gives the post some sense of urgency. I also would like some more information on the nature of the abuse, but all abuse in this environment must be reported, IMO.

Hmm - the course outline (as well as ethical behaviour and such) seem to require it:

"Z1:
Contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse"

Well that was my first thought. Now I'm a bit concerened about why the poster couldn't figure that out.

Cav--

Thanks for the link--very helpful.

dlowan--

You beat me to item Z-1 which makes it very clear that abuse of any sort should not be tolerated in any way.

pammy--

Is the problem of reporting abuse a homework assignment? Or an essay topic?

I would guess that when you're finished with your course, someone will be paying you money as a certified caregiver. Abuse that you see would be reported to your employer--or to the family of the abused patient--or to both.

Remember, your patient is helpless, but you are not. Ignoring abuse could put you in danger legally.

NVQ is a British thing, a National Vocational Qualification. I'm not too sure of its status, but I read it that Pammy is working for a qualification in the care industry. My guess is that this is a theoretical question, "What action should you take if ..." rather than asking for advice on an actual case of abuse.
