Excellent analysis of Orwell, padmasambava. I wasn't sure if you were talking about sarcasm as a form of irony, which it can be defined to be in certain senses, or a blatantly cynical view of things.
I first read 1984 in high school in 1985; that book forever changed my view of humanity, and I had lived for years with the abject cynicism of humanity that that story presents. I'd re-read it to remind myself of it. But I found hope in the world through such figures as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. For as bad as humanity can be, there are those individuals that demonstrate just how good humanity can be also.
For everyone that espouses Ayn Rand and Objectivism, I always think 1984 as a counterweight to such idealism.
