@Baldimo,
Amazing that with all that wrongdoing by the American government that America continues to be so extraordinarily behind-hand in bringing Syrian refugees in.

@ehBeth,
It isn't a bad thing to be "behind-hand" in this. Maybe if the majority of the refugees were really women and children it wouldn't be so bad, but there are a lot of young males that should be fighting for their homes and not just fleeing.

I'm sure the US could find children/women/families to help.

Americans should be embarrassed. Small, poor countries are doing more to help than the US is.

I wonder if Trump Jr. eats cookie dough or cake batter. I mean the chance of an egg having salmonella (1 in 20,000) is far worse than the one is several million skittle analogy.

(I must fess up, I prefer the cookie dough to the cookies.)

How many refugees are being taken in by other ME countries?

That means 48% are over 18 and able to fight for their homes.

Pretty sure Lebanon has taken in so many that one in 4 of the population is a Syrian refugee - Jordan also well over a million - ah, here's the table, to the right of this page:

What facts do you have to counter it?
What would you do differently to bring more refugees in safely?

Oh. It must be hard then. Best we give up now, rather than tackle something that's hard or requires us to think instead of mindlessly shout "NOT IN MY BACKYARD!"

@ossobucotemp,
No, let's send osso and everyone else who is in favor of taking tens of thousands of Syrian refugees here to Syria.

It isn't a default position for any nation on earth to accept refugees from around the world.

I certainly get why people think we should provide refuge to these poor people, but it's is nonsense that we are obligated to do so.

If we really care about these people what is a better than to use our incredibly superior military power to put them in a position where they don't need to flee their homeland?

Not sure what the logic of this is or what it will achieve.

Now that's pure fantasy. Even if it would work how many american lives are you willing to trade for it? 'Tens of thousands'?

I was struck, Hinge, by the number Greece has taken in--they can't pay the electric bill, but they have stepped up on this problem.

Hmm . .. how many Americans have been killed by Syrian refugees so far?

@hingehead,
Some people are unable or unwilling to accept how complicated the situation is in Syria because it doesn't fit their monochrome thinking. Assad represents the minority Alawite community and is propped up by Iran and Russia. Then there's Turkey, a NATO ally that supports the Turkmen but is in conflict with the Kurds, (another NATO ally,) and has been turning a blind eye to the Jihadis. Then there's the FSA supported by the West and publicly by the Gulf states, and the Jihadis, like IS, who are covertly funded by the Gulf states. And these groups are all over Syria, not just one place which makes it very difficult to decide who should and shouldn't be bombed.

Simple solutions to complex problems is what lead to the, (still illegal,) invasion of Iraq and the monumental dog's breakfast that is now the ME. Even if America does have "incredibly superior military power" it's not superior enough to take on the Russians without dire consequences. You and I know that, but we don't come from a culture where Geography begins and ends with the naming of state capitals.

In a recent interview Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson asked what Aleppo was, and if that amount of ignorance is acceptable for a presidential candidate it's not surprising that his supporters on A2K don't have a clue.
