Kerry, quoted in Outdoor Life: "My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam. I don't own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle."

Ask Google if you have any doubts.

and Lightwizard, give me a break. Referring to a declaration of war as sending thousands of Americans to "wholesale slaughter" is hardly a slip of the tongue. It's hyperbole, and purposefully worded to be inflammatory, like if I had called kerry's assault rifle a Weapon of Mass Destruction. "Sending Americans to die in an unjust war", or some such phrase, would have at least been defensible.

In the end, do I think Kerry wants to take away all my guns? No.
Not yet, anyway. Total gun control is a time-consuming process.
Do I think AWB v.2 is high on his Things To Do list if he gets elected?
Yes.
Will it make any difference in crime?
Not an iota, just like AWB v.1.

Quote:
It has been illegal to buy a machine gun without federal clearance since 1934, and remains so.

The ad also claims that Bush "will let the assault weapon ban expire," which is misleading. In fact, Bush spoke in support of the ban during his campaign four years ago and his spokesman said as recently as May of last year that he still supported it. It was Congress that failed to consider extending the ban and didn't present Bush with a bill to sign.

nate please note one of the reminders of my service...like I said an old souvenir, that's all.....apples and oranges.....I'm not sure how that validates the claim that we need to be prepared to lose all our guns if Kerry is elected......but I anxiously await your explanation, which I'm sure is close at hand......

and also nate, please assign a numerical value to wholesale slaughter for me.......perhaps we value human life differently.........is this perhaps merely retail slaughter?

Since Bush is also in favour of the ban, perhaps Nate wants to track down a new candidate to support.

I am not a moderator and I'm suggesting nobody who is not should read the TOS and determine if whether what Bi-Polar Bear said is enough to click on the "report" button or if what nate said is enough to click the "report" button. A troll is also defined as someone who is proliferating many topics and posts around many Internet forum sites which are inflammatory and designed to bait members into a fire fight. Clearly that does not apply here. Now let the horse rest in peace.

I think our current estimate of a 10:1 kill ratio in Iraq hardly makes a good case for the claim that our soldiers are being "slaughtered". By that terminology, you'd have to invent entirely new words for the level of destruction in every other war we've been in.

Would you characterize a war which has been one of the least costly (in terms of lives) wars we've ever been in, as a "slaughter"?

never mind, I'm not going to debate your semantics on the definition of "slaughter". 'Tis a silly place, and I'm not going to visit there.

ehBeth, Bush's promise to sign the bill if it crosses his desk is pretty minimal "support" for the AWB, considering its minimal chance of getting through our current Congress. I see it as a relatively meaningless token gesture to the gun control crowd, meant to get some votes from moderates, and it doesn't bother me much.

Nice to know that Bush's "support" for some kind of weapons control doesn't bother nate much.

That's so reassuring....

No, no -- definitely no. Bi-Polar with a gun? An assault weapon at that? Are your crazy? Unthinkable. This is Lightwizard and I approve of reporting this to the moderators.

In that case, Kerry's similar position shouldn't be causing you any concern either, nate.

Interesting world view Nate. What constitutes an unacceptable "kill ratio" and why do you feel you have to post this in a .5 font?
