troll: A troublemaker who deliberately posts provocative, hostile or annoying messages in a newsgroup or mailing list with the specific intent of starting a flamewar.

I stand by my assertion. The post was pure off-topic flamebait. You can call me a newb, or you can address the issue, but I can guess which option you've chosen.

It was not flamebait nate old buddy.....if Kerry owns a gun as a collectors item that's a long way from wanting them available to any Tom Dick or Harry who wants to use them on the street.........and you obviously can reconcile being a Christian with declaring an unrighteous war for profit which costs thousands of innocent lives but I cannot...nor can many here and elsewhere.......and rightly or wrongly nate my friend, there are many many people who sincerely believe as I do......just as there are those who believe as you do......

now, since you obviously have disdain for those who toss out flamebait.......how do you reconcile the fact that you took the bait faster than a Great White in a chum pool?

And calling me a troll....I suppose that was civilized discussion and not flaming correct?

Consistency nate, consistency is the key to managing yourself......they say a man who can't control his impulses can't control his bowels....that may or may not be true of course....what do you think? Let's have a real discussion here and be buddies........

"did you know that bush, who claims to be a christian has ordered the wholesale slaughter of thousands of american soldiers and iraqi civilians in the name of Christ and freedom?

Hell of a double standard if you ask me, and damn sure trumps a collectors item gun."

Nate, after reviewing Bears post I can see why you might have mistook him for a troll. There is a bit of hyperbole in his post. I believe if he had left out the word "wholesale" you wouldn't have been as offended.
I also rue my harsh words to you, since I don't know you yet very well. I was on my buddy Bears six and lookin out for him. Welcome to A2K and I look forward to our future discussions.

yeah me too, I somehow am getting the feeling you're probably a really cool person who I'd love to hang out with at like, TGI Fridays or something....
maybe since you're on the left coast and Panzade and I are on the right, we could meet somewhere in the middle...like maybe Branson or something and catch a floor show.....good times huh guys?

It was not "off-topic" although the rhetorical interpretation of "wholesale" could conjure up all sorts of answers. Did you mean the wholesale price of oil, perhaps? Seems that's working in someone's interest.

oh, so if I want to -collect- fully-automatic weapons, it's okay? So I should be able to go into a gun store and buy an assault rifle as long as I claim it's for collecting purposes?

It's still a double standard. Kerry doesn't think any civilian should be allowed to own the weapon he owns, it's as simple as that. If he really believes in the idea of gun control, he should adhere to it himself, and at the very least, have the weapon demilled.

That was a correct characterization of a post that was purposefully inflammatory and woefully off-topic. We call those posts, and sometimes the posters, "trolls", where I come from, regardless of a poster's rank or seniority. Considering I left out my usual colorful profanity, I'd say it was rather civilized.

Of course it was. The thread is about guns, and the post, instead of addressing the issue, brought up the Iraq war, which is absolutely unrelated except for the forced hypocrisy parallel ("Hey, speaking of guns, what about Iraq? Wholesale slaughter!").

The comparison was a fair and valid comparison. Depending on what you believe and belief is only what you wish to be true. I haven't researched whether Kerry owning one of these weapons is, in fact, true. Link, please? And not a link to an obvious partisan site which has not or will not confirm its sources. A troll is a person who continually behaves in that manner. A slip, like using the word "wholesale" as an instance, which is only your opinion of one post does not warrant calling someone a troll. There's nothing inflamatory about noting that thousands of Americans and Iraqis have been killed. That's an unfortunate fact. Whether it is a grosser transgression than the assertion that Kerry owns a gun he isn't suppose to own is strictly opinion. There are those who are willing to give you a pass even though they disagree with that opinion. Your horse has whinnied and died.

Has anyone mentioned yet that, despite never voting "no" on a gun control bill and publically supporting the "assault weapons" ban, Kerry has publically admitted owning a Chinese assault rifle? No, not an "assault weapon" (scary black plastic gun), an actual fully-automatic military weapon, which is illegal to own in both Massachusetts and DC.

Hell of a double-standard if you ask me.

So let me get this straight Nate.Your post is germane to the thread subject? Where? How does it advance the kooky theory that kerry is gonna take away everybody's guns. And since you're so well-versed on forum etiquette;did it ever occur to you to post a link to the report that Kerry owns a gun that he doesn't want Joe Blow to buy.

Right, panzade, the topic is whether or not Kerry intends to take away everyone's guns and it's been asserted that he intends on keeping his guns and taking away everyone else's guns. Who was it who said "garbage in, garbage out?" An ad hominem attack on a member does not constitute a valid argument.

at least he left out his colorful profanity and spared me the full brunt of his powerful and forceful rhetoric.......that might have broken my spirit permanently........anyway Branson...New Years Eve....The Silver Dollar Saloon? I can reserve us a table right by the front pole.......I hear Marie Osmaond is the featured act that night and that she can do amazing things with hot wax and Doc Johnsons products.......I guarantee you some guns will be going off then fellas.......(with apologies to Lightwizard...I'll get back on topic now...)

No I don't think John Kerry will, if elected take everyone's guns....I personally think the bush administration would be more likely to do that in a pre emptive strike against home grown dissenters....for our own safety of course.......all neatly legalized and rubber stampd by the Patriot Act....which of course would trump allowing the assault weapons ban to expire........lube 'em up today....stick it in tomorrow......

Kerry's voting record on gun ownership speaks for itself - he's pathetic. He has voted 100% of the time in favor of every gun control bill that has passed his desk. Even worse, he has voted 100% of the time in favor of the position taken by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which is the largest anti-hunting organization in the U.S.

Don't ever confuse HSUS with the neighborhood humane society that takes in animals. HSUS is a bunch of animal rights activists dressed up like a mainstream organization, which it is clearly not.
