I'm writing an essay about Mao's last dancer and I'm using PETAL.
What techniques are used in the following quote?
“Beijing is my chance. I am scared to leave my parents yet I know this will be my only chance of helping them…. I can’t let my parents down. I can’t let my brothers down. I am carrying their dreams as well as my own.”

What do you mean by "technique"?

Try to think of things the author does to get the point across and connect those things to literary devices your teacher has taught you. You could point out perspective, tense, etc... there are a lot.
