I have a question about whether or not this would be a passive or an active sentence:
If the question is: "Where are you going to go to school next year?:
Would the correct answer be:
"I have been accepted by Shoreline College." OR
"I was accepted by Shoreline College?"
Either answer is acceptable, Jamie.
And both are in the passive voice, the first in the present perfect tense and the second in simple past tense.
Active voice would be: 'Shoreline College accepted/has accepted me'.
Yeah, but if you've been accepted but haven't decided to go, it's not the answer to the question as it was asked.
"Where are you going to college?"
"I'm going to Shoreline College."
or
"Shoreline College has accepted me, but I'm not sure that's where I want to go."
or
"I have been accepted by four colleges. I'm going to Shoreline College because it's the closest to home."
etc., etc.
The decision is explicit in the reply, even though the vocabulary is different, Wy-- Grice's Maxim: Relevance.
