What is the longest word you can think of that does not have any vowels?
I've got hymns.
I think y is a vowel, used like that, strictly speaking.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
"Y" is a consanant. Unofficially, it is a vowel. If we used "Y" as a vowel, the longest word here would be... ?
We learned the vowels this way in elementary school: 'a, e, i, o, u and sometimes y'.
In Welsh Y, W and H are classed as vowels. So you see huge words without A,E,I,O or U in and haven't a clue how to pronounce them.
Linguistically, Y is a glide.
R is also in certain instances.
It's not a glide when it's pronounced the way it is in rhythm or rhyme. It's a mid-front vowel or a low-front vowel.
R is always a glide, that I know of, in English.....
