I think it is clunky and awkward, but I suppose it follows the rules of grammar.

Well Pop, almost any word can be used as almost any part of speech. We can suppose a context where certain human actions are discussed; terror, anxiety, selflessness

"Selflessness" is a noun. You needed to use the adjective "selfless" to be grammatical, unless you're being metaphorical.
