What is the difference between house and home ?

A house is a structure. A home is where someone lives. They are often the same thing.

A house is one kind of building. Not all homes are houses. A home can be an apartment, a caravan, a trailer, a tent, a boat or a cave (the list could be extended). I knew someone who lived in a former railway coach which had been converted into a dwelling. (There's another word for the vocabulary). Even old planes get converted:
