@Glennn,
I guess it depends upon your definition of "belief"
Personally I don't think there is much of a difference because I define "belief" as an acceptance of a statement.
The actual difference arises from secondary definitions in which "faith" must be involved with "God" I don't pay this any mind.
Hope involves a
desire for a certain outcome or truth. Now it can be argued that many people of faith desire that which they believe in, but it is not necessarily the case.
For example: Personally, I'm ultimately OK with what might be the fact that there is no God; and/or there is no hereafter: If this is the case, I'll die and that will be it. I won't be floating around in the Void in some metaphysical bubble tortured by the recognition of my non-existence.
I'm not afraid of a universe without God, and if what resonates within me proves to be untrue, there will be no "I" to care.
It makes sense to me that there is a God and a hereafter.
I can't prove it, so I have faith in it.
We can expect the anti-faith crowd here to now weigh in on their notions of fundamentalist Christians and these questions, but won't that be ridiculously narrow?
