Coulrophobia is a serious problem. I know one person who could not even look at this thread without having a panic attack and passing out.
So yes, clowns are pretty evil. Having said that I remember Charlie Cairoli from kids TV. I just found him boring, and definitely not funny. Fair play to him though for continuing a family tradition.

I think more of Pierrot in connection with clowns and a Pierrot is a kind, naiv and sentimental person and of course fun.
In Tivoli, Copenhagen is the very famous Pierrot, Harlekin and Columbine

I didn't grow up loving clowns, but neither did i hate or fear them. I think small children freak out about clowns because some big, weird looking guy gets in their face, and they lose it. So naturally, the "entertainment" media take that and run with it.
I don't laugh at clowns so much as enjoy seeing them try to make folks happy. If you want to scare the **** out of a little kid, just put them on "Santa's" lap.
