@panzade,
They say they're ready. I sure hope they're right. I'm worried about Haiti - they've got no margin for anything.

The shutters are locked in place and the preparations are finished.
Matthew is supposed to hit us directly at around 9 pm.
Power outage is certain, who knows for how long.
Wish me luck friends.

@panzade,
Good luck fellow Floridian. Returning to Sarasota myself on around October 14. We're driving down October 10 from upstate New York.

@panzade,
Best of luck. This looks like one of those storms that hits you once then circles around for another bite.

@panzade,
That's a big tree next to your house. I hope the roots are deep and strong.

A scary night but we survived with no damage. Now hoping power is restored soon.

@panzade,
I sympathize. I went weeks without power and water after Hurricane Ike.

@edgarblythe,
Yup. No power is no good. It mostly happens to us because of ice storms . It's never good.

@ehBeth,
Particularly tricky if you are nightblind and the power loss is at night. Not to whine as it hasn't happened often for me, but scare city when it does. Girl has flashlights in certain corners, at the ready.

Some years ago now, the family next door to me had a fire, and people came to my door to tell me, this at 4 a.m. I don't routinely answer my door, but this got heavier and heavier and people were starting to scream, while thumping on the door. I gave up and answered. They pulled me out in my bathrobe. Flames in the sky, and the house next door is only a few feet away.
Neighbors lining the street, fire truck at curb..

It turned out that the recently ex husband had started the furnace for winter - we have old furnaces...

Anyway, I am keen about my neighbors, good people.

Finally got power last night.
Can't imagine how people lived without air conditioning in Florida.
