@revelette2,
He was asked about the subject of his religious or spiritual views at one of the townhall debates. He talked about it for a couple of minutes, here's the video:

The man was specifically asked whether he thinks there is a higher power or superior being. His answer was to repeat about 7 times rephrasing it as he went, "I think we are all in this together". And because he's BERNIE! - there is never a follow up.

@snood,
A lot of people took that to mean atheist.

It's funny that people think that American, who just elected it's first black president, is ready to elect a culturally Jewish, possible atheist, (democratic) socialist who promises paradise to his voters but hasn't ever been able to deliver in his career.

Yeah, I know to a lot of people who are predisposed to hear it, what he said was as good as saying "I don't believe in God". Others, geared differently, I'm sure heard "Of course I believe in God".
I just think it would be nice if the question could be asked and answered clearly, but I guess in the world of politics, that's asking for too much.

@snood,

Quote:
But he offered a rare glimpse into his spiritual views in an interview with The Washington Post published Wednesday.

β€œI think everyone believes in God in their own ways, β€œ said Sanders, who polls show is neck-and-neck with Hillary Clinton in Iowa and opening a large lead in New Hampshire. β€œTo me, it means that all of us are connected, all of life is connected, and that we are all tied together.”

@ehBeth,
It is kind of a nothing answer (Do atheist believe in God in their own ways?) but, I really could care less about anyone's religious views as long as they keep them to themselves.

@revelette2,
I mostly agree with that.

As an atheist though, if an avowed atheist were running for president, I have to admit that I'd be more inclined to vote for them.

I can't believe that religion is even part of a political arena. It's like we're living in medieval times ....but then again, if we look at the U.S. voting system, we really are.

I agree, after this year I'm even more convinced that caucuses are the most undemocratic process imaginable.

Atheists, by definition, do not believe in God/gods.

I know which is why his answer really made no sense whatsoever and answered nothing. I wasn't aware he was asked though before ya'll posted it.

@revelette2,
Getting back to the POS, Clinton tore into Donald Trump on tv today. It makes you wonder why Trump has so many supporters when he's a cowboy who would shoot from the hip without any knowledge of foreign policy and our allies.
CONCLUSION? I hate to say it, but too many Americans are influenced by his wealth, and nothing more. Uneducated dummkophs.

@snood,
I dont care if he believes in a supreme being. There is already too much religion in what should be pure politics using ones natural ethics. Teaching religious right and wrong seems to lead to taking away rights.

But I'm sure that would mostly depend on if his/her policies and views were compatible with yours, not just on some God/not God test (I hope).

@snood,
Yes, of course.

For example...
If Sanders were an out and out atheist it may have tilted my vote/support to him during the primaries. Hard to say considering the last few months though.

I'm fairly certain that we've had an atheist president already, but what I want to see in my lifetime is someone to ask "Do you believe in God?" and the candidate to say "No, I do not."

I just wanted a straight answer. Wonder if it will ever not be a political liability to admit to being atheist.
And I wonder how else the country would have to change before that time would come.

@snood,
The one that stands out is Jefferson.
I actually thought/think that Obama may be one.

It's hard to know for real though since not a single politician can ever openly state that belief.
