I am not trying to offend anyone with this question but i would like to know your thoughts on how an Atheist who believes the earth was created through evolution can have true morals without the existence of the God of the Bible? again i am not trying to offend anybody, i would just like to hear what people think.

@braydenvaness,
I don't put a label on myself I guess you would consider me an atheist as I don't think about any God, gods, saviors, phrofits etc one way or the other.

That said, I would have to pose a question to you. Why do you think you need to have some supreme being to worship in order to be able to tell what is the right thing to do?

You seriously need to educate yourself. Who told you that anyone believes the earth was "created" by evolution?

I'll tell ya, this place is hilarious. You can't make up sh*t this funny--the bind moggles.

Why do you have morals? Are you afraid that your god will kick your ass?

I love the premise that people need a god in order to behave.

@braydenvaness,
I've seen plenty of atheists with strong morals, so it is definitely possible.

I've also noticed that whenever I hear of a grievous atrocity, it almost always seems to be committed by an atheist. Clearly while some atheists do have strong morals, other atheists do not.

I'd guess that there are religious people who also have no personal qualms about committing atrocities, but they refrain from doing so because they fear God's judgement.

Yeah, right . . . so the crusaders who killed and ate their Turkish prisoners, as reported by their own priests, that was because god had given them a moral compass--or was it because they were secreatly ATHEISTS ? ! ? ! ? The Bosnia Serbs, ostensibly Orthodox christians, when they slaughtered more than 8000 unarmed men and boys because they were nominally Muslim, is that because they feared their magic sky daddy? Maybe it was because they were actually ATHEIST ! ! !

You can't make up sh*t this tunny.

@braydenvaness,
Atheists are good people because they want to be. And frankly, so are religious people. Because morally acceptable cultural behavior doesn't come from religion, it comes from a deeper place than that. A more natural place. A less corruptible place. A place we all share, deep in our mammalian bones.

I find many Atheists/agnostics to be very moral people. The main diference is their moral compass and motivation, and the degree to which they limit themselves. Christians hold themselves (or should) to a stricter moral compass, true, but I find that very few Christians actually keep all of these morals. Take for instance fornication, how many Christians today would be happy to commit to a single sexual partner for an entire lifetime? I don't imagine the number to be very high

A question my friend, how do you define true morals?

Personally, I have had more sneaky, low down **** pulled on me by christians than any other group of people.

I'm not talking about world wide atrocities, where horrible things are done in the name of God or religion.

I'm talking about everyday garden variety mean spiritness, gossip, giving with one hand and taking away with the other crap.

My experience.

@farmerman,
Sorry farmer, I'm a little obtuse at times and I don't think I've cottoned on, do you mean an excuse for not having had "relations?" Or an excuse to do bad things?
One is funny and the other is to a degree very valid

@Smileyrius,
IMHO, Ive found that Christians, recognizing that they are sinners "but are forgiven " use this as an excuse to do whatever they please.

Morals tends to be the precepts of a religion; however, ethical thinking is like do it yourself morals. Many atheists/agnostics ask themselves the Socratic question, "Is this ethical behavior?" before they do many things. Religious folk oftentimes just ask themselves the Socratic question, "Is this moral?". If their respective religion does not say it is a sin, then they can do it, even if it is not ethical. See?

@chai2,
Let me first clarify, do you believe the earth came to be through evolution and random chance?
