@cliffdwellerlame,
Welcome to the world of NA. That would be Narcotics Anonymous, which is an offshoot of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). They both follow a model of 12 steps of principles and ideas on how to lead a clean and dry sober life without relying on drugs or booze to hide from one's self.

Both AA and NA (as well as the myriad of other 12 step recovery groups) have roots dating back to The Washingtonians (from the mid-1800s) and the Oxford Group. The religious and spiritual aspects have been toned down somewhat over time and are not a requirement, the only requirement is truly wanting to not use drugs and/or alcohol.

Access www.google.com or a similar search engine to learn more about it and in detailed format, including places where individuals get together to work together towards a life with a less hazy mind.

Additionally, an individual can seek respite as their first move towards the drug and/or alcohol free life in a rehabilitation center.
