If I ask "What animal do you like" and "What animals do you like", what would be the proper responses to both?

Your question is nonsensical. The "best"answer would depend on which animal or animals your interlocutor preferred. There is no "best" answer.

@Seizan,
"What (one) animal do you like"? The dog

"What (several ) animals do you like"? The dog, the cat and the mouse

Why do you need to be so offensive with almost every comment you give? This is perfectly logical question for someone learning english or a child. Either way, I would not want my child running into you for an answer. Just be nice dude. Is that so hard?

@Lilkanyon,
There is no single response to both, nor any single "best" response, and that is what makes it nonsensical. Given that i have no reason to believe that you are native speaker of English, i'm not surprised at your response, or your offensive response.

@Setanta,
K Trump, I was not born in America, so I therefore, do not exist. Gotcha.

@Setanta,
Why post a duck-photo on a question relating to 'grammatical' usage?
Us 'dense' folk, don't forget how WE FAIL to answer the 'actual' op, ya know.
Hypocrite.

@mark noble,
It's not a "duck," and i answered the OP, you sniveling creep.

@Setanta,
Insults aside - It's a duck and you practice 'other' than what you preach 'hypocrisy'.
Plain to see.

No, it's not a duck. I have preached nothing upon which you can base your sniveling charge of hypocrisy (and then whine about insults). You're just a typical turd-stirrer who picks fights because he has nothing substantive to add to these threads.

@Setanta,
I'm not 'picking' a fight.
A 'duck' photo is irrelevant to the OP.
If you check your 'dense-us' post, a few days ago - where you slammed us for not responding 'academically' correctly to an OP - You will, ego aside, notice your hypocrisy.
Doesn't bother me, either way.

@Setanta,
Hi everyone, and thanks for the input. I was not asking for a "best" answer, just a "proper" one. I am asked this by Japanese English teachers fairly often, so thought it best to get another's input.

I have another question coming up soon...
