I understand from a Nature.com new item that researchers believe having a stimulating career/job may protect against dementia by keeping you interested and utilizing your brain etc etc

This may be true, but try to find a job when you are more than 50. I was actually told, "Dear, you're not 23." I said no I am not but I am better than when I was 23. I've read more and am more patient. THe job had to do with publishing.
