Lower Back Ache

Reply Mon 9 Aug, 2004 09:35 pm
I have had a dull ache in my lower left back for several weeks. I went to my chiropracter after a few weeks, but no luck so far. I had a massage of the lower back and gluteal area yesterday, to which my masseuse said my right side was much tighter than my left and my hips were out of balance.
The dull ache is now a sharper pain, most probably due to the massage and long walk I took three days ago. The ache/pain is only when I am sitting, on my left side. I can feel an ache in the upper top of my left thigh too. Any suggestions?

Yes, go get a complete physical. Don't try to diagnose yourself. As a matter of fact don't let the masseuse or the chiropractor diagnose you either.

WOW! Blame the massage therapist, why don'tcha? Rolling Eyes You go in w/an ache and the lmt made it worse, not the walk... Rolling Eyes Here I was all set to have a go at playing, "Guess what's pinched," but not w/you blaming your exacerbated problem on my fellow therapist. Sheesh!

(Now if you backpaddle like crazy and give a little more info, like if it began hurting when you did such-and-such, and the chiro said the imbalance goes ___, maybe I'll still have a go at what it could be.)

I think s/he should, too, because negative people ought to take the least controversial route which treats the symptoms rather than the problem(which alternative treatments can, and often do...) I could warrant an educated guess on what the symptom feels like, but not sure I should since it's only a hypothetical game when done online, and I'm not licensed to diagnose anything as a licensed massage therapist, but if we were to suggest possibilities, I'm guessing that it feels like a cramp, or more like a tightness going down toward the thigh bone... if that's right, I have the correct massage technique in my repetoire, and know a few exercises to stretch that sucker out... but I think the OP ought to go to a regular gp, then get prescribed a muscle relaxant, and when the problem continues, goet referred to a bone specialist. After all, they are the best trained in traditional medicine, so know more, right? Laughing

I think you either pulled something or pinched something, but I agree that you should go see your regular doctor just to make sure.

Good luck.

Go to your orthopedist, get a checkup, and maybe an X ray. Some years ago, my mother went to a chiropractor, of whom I had a lot of respect. It's a damn good thing that when his ministrations did not give sufficient relief, she went to an MD.

Seems that she had a condition (temporal arteritis) that could have caused a stroke. She was put on medications for a number of years, and her blood was monitored regularly.

The problem with some chiropractors, is that they have an overinflated concept of what chiropractic can do for people. They do NOT have the training to diagnose many illnesses.

I happen to like chiropractic, but realize that it works well only in limited problems.

Have you consulted an internist and a nephrologist ( kidney specialist )?
The anatomical area indicated could be one of your kidneys.
