It's inept or awkward what expression to choose or what is the best construction for he sentence. This really gets on me.Check these out:
1) I want you to go by our house and check on your granfather.
why we don't say: I want you to go to our house and check up your granfather.
2) The dishwasher leakes out of the bottom.
why we don't say: The dishwasher leakes from the bottom.
I really study hard but these things sometimes make me feel down.I really wanna be good at my expression. What do you recommend me to do??
1) I'm not entirely sure but I believe that this is merely a convention of speech. 'On' or 'up' in this case are really unneccesary.
2)It is acceptable to say either.
All four cases look perfectly acceptable to me. (though I think it is "grandfather".)
I missed that one, limbodog.
Also, in common speech, when people use the word 'up', as in your example, they would typically couple it with 'on' anyway. For example: "I want you to go by our house and check up on your grandfather".
yes, but it is not that on usually comes after up...it is that "check up" means the same as "check"
I know, stuh, I already said that.
i was trying to clarify what you said becaus you said up goes with on, not up goes with check
