Can you read through the sentence below in one breath?
If you can, I do envy you.

U.S. intelligence officials have said that separate intelligence received last week added to a sense of alarm within the administration and that intelligence on threats associated with the election period remained serious.

If you cannot, tell us how you divide it into several parts and make your audience clearly understand you.

Re: Read this sentence and get suffocative
I'd break it up like this if I felt it was too unwieldily a sentence:

U.S. intelligence officials have said that separate intelligence received last week added to a sense of alarm within the administration. They note that intelligence on threats associated with the election period remained serious.
