Could I use could? (not can)

-Here comes an interesting and extreme example of negative language transfer, just have fun. Hope you __ keep smiling amid the tension of exams and mid-term essays.

I am talking about the present, so normally could with hope would be wrong, and can should be used. But somehow this time it sounds OK to me.

"Could" would not necessarily be wrong, but i would use "can," and i suspect that most native-speakers of English would as well.

#.....235 is right of course WB, but there is a very slight diff in meaning: "Could" implies the exams and essays might be done with
