A "passionate" man is one of many appetites who feels and reacts strongly with enthusiasm or rage or powerful love.

A "compassionate" man feels deeply and can understand and even identify with the unfortunate, the wounded and the inarticulate.

Passion is any very powerful feeling

Compassion is the ability to relate to, or understand, the feelings of others.

If examples would help more:

The man who works extra hours and always talks excitedly about what he does is passionate about his work.

The man who spends his free time helping others who are in need is very compassionate.
