Now is it correct to use under? (not in)

-Cynthia would be __ probation.

The British Corpus has no sentence using under, but the CORPUS OF CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN ENGLISH has four. But four is just a small number; I am not sure whether they are typos. We got marks deducted as students for writing under.

If the sentence means 'during training when you start a job', is it correct to use 'under'? The example sentences in the Corpus are talking about things like

-A system of suspending the sentence on an offender or releasing an offender from detention

Not about a job.

In the U.S. the phrase would be "on probation."

Well, yes and no. I'm American, and never been nuthin else, true that. On the other hand there are many dialects and idiosyncratic expressions within this country, so I'm not comfortable saying there is only one language called "American English." I leave that concept to the academics--which I aint.
