I have read that many businesses have terminated their pension plans because of their cost, sometimes substituting other forms of deferred compensation (e.g., 401-k Plans).

Have any government agencies (federal, state, or local) cut or eliminated a pension plan?

Hrmm.. I know that most Federal employees have what is called a "Thrift Savings Plan" they can use. It's a lot like a 401K. They still have a pension to go with it though.
