This is frustrating! This story was mentioned a number of times in the Australian media a few days ago - and I listened to a long interview with the scientists involved on the radio the other day - but I cannot find the story anywhere now that I want to tell it!!!
Anyhoo - a team of Oz scientists announced that they had been testing a therapy for Alzheimer's on hapless meeces, of a genetic strain purpose bred to develop the damned disease (poor little things!). Probably forget where they put their babies and such.
In meece, the treatment halts, and starts to reverse, the disease.
Human trials are occurring in the USA and Great Britain - (Oz does not have enough victims, given our small population, to conduct adequate trials here).
One of the scientists said that, if you are a mouse, we have Alzheimers beaten.
Time will tell re humans and side effects.
Just thought you might like to know.
Knowing this population, I bet someone has found and posted info about it almost before I submit!!!
We are doing some hopeful trials on a cancer treatment, too - I will try and find that.
Very hopeful - I think I've heard about this. If it wasn't this trial that was in the news, it was one like it. The more the merrier!
Yes - I heard that the American trial has been publicized.
There is one drug also being trialled that seems to halt - this one seems to heal!
WOW I'll tell my Mom, she has a dear friend with Alzheimer's and it's hard to see what's been happening to P___.

This is just beginning human trials - after having made a lot of forgetful mice very happy indeed.
