Is there an apostrophe or not?

Perhaps I have asked this before. When using the impersonal pronoun "one" possessively, does one spell it "one's" or "ones"? I always thought that "one's" is a contraction of "one is". Since there is no apostrophe in "his" or "her" can "ones" not be correct?

Yes, you should use the apostrophe. There would be no confusion due to context. "A room of one's own." "We found them in Bill's room." In the second sentence, contest makes it clear that the apostrophe indicates possession, and is not the contraction for "Bill is."
