We are blessed with a Republic form of government and signed off on a constitution allowing our elected representatives to levy taxes as needed for purposes of government.

I think 'freedom' within the context of our form of government is that we are free to think, believe, speak, and behave as we choose so long as nothing is required of another person other than his/her non interference.

This freedom also permits us to leave any time we wish for whatever reason including the reason that our elected officials sufficiently displease us or that our taxes are used for purposes of which we disagree.

This makes us among the most free people on earth.
