ATHENS, 27 August - Robert KORZENIOWSKI (POL) proved once more why he is considered by many to be the best walker ever when he won his fourth Olympic gold medal by taking the Men's 50km Walk, finishing in 3:38.46.
He just missed the Olympic record of 3:38.29 set in 1988 by Vyacheslav IVANENKO (URS) at the Seoul Olympics.
KORZENIOWSKI, who succesfully defended the title he had won at Sydney, added to his gold collection previously amassed in the 50km Walk in Sydney and Atlanta as well as his gold in the 20km Walk in Sydney.

I know, Thok. An average walking speed is around 3.5 mph. I was very surprise how fast it was though. I would have guessed about 6.5mph before I worked it out. There's always someone in the walking events who gets disqualified for "running" in the last few km, which makes me laugh.

Husker, Thanks for the info about the rudder. Makes sense.

I watched the walking race. All of it. KORZENIOWSKI was amazing. The temperature was over 90 degrees F. Despite the enormous effort and ability, it looks, well, strange. And just a little silly.

We'll see - I disagree with him Wink

Let's see what's left with real chances:... the olympic walkers (these fellers have only failed to win a medal once since 1984)

This says a lot about the so-called A2K sports experts Smile

MOU, I saw the last the ten minutes of Croatia-Hungary (the only handball Mexican TV has showed). Great team. Congrats.

As for us, things are not good, but not as bleak, with three silvers (athletics, cycling and tae kwon do) and one bronze (tae kwon do).

BTW, one must admire Robert Korzeniowsky.
His pace at the 50 km race walk was incredible, in terribly hot weather conditions.
It's his third straight olympic gold in that distance (plus one gold in 20 km. in Sydney).
This Polish athlete is the best race walker in history. A living legend.

Not to rain on your parade, but Australia just won the gold. First time ever for the men's hockey team, and takes us to 17 gold medals for the games, which is the most we've ever won Very Happy

men's olympic basketball
sorry if I sound unpatritoic but I think our over-paid, obnoxious NBA players are earning a deserved humiliation.

With the exception of Tim Duncan and maybe only a couple others, I find it hard to cheer them on for a bronze medal.

Thok, my country is world champion Wink And Olympic one, of course, but you just have to wait for that two days Very Happy

Seriously, I think it's going to be great game. Croatia was better during tournament, straight 7-0 record. Germany lost from Hungary (!) and France, but in game against Russia Germans were brilliant, so it's going to be really open game....
