When it became inevitable that Bush was going to be president, I voiced "loyal opposition" support for him. He immediately dumped on my illusion. I don't disagree with him today simply on the ground that he's a Republican. I would disagree with him no matter what the affiliation. I roundly criticised Clinton also.
As for Republicans in general, they oppose science, social programs, abortion rights, bipartisanship, balanced budgets, separation of church and state - a long list to overcome before I could support the best of their candidates.
Today's republicans have given the party a bad name. They're now more like thugs. It's too bad.
Edgar, in large part, I share your many if not most of your objections - I just see the available alternative as more objectionable. Its not politics I dislike, its politicians.
