You also need a capacity to interpret your memories, to draw lessons from them. Otherwise they are useless. Feelings may be one way to do that, but not the only one. Logic is another. In any case, even our memories and our feelings are functional.

Dateline, Washington:

In a test study, 100 subjects had their brains removed and were asked a series of questions. None were answered. The study results have been sent to the prosecuting attorney for further evaluation.

In a related story, 100 new government jobs have been created. . .

Why the obsession with the "pink slices"? Would you discard the liver as functional because it can be cut into slices?
