Just a query. If a divorced man who is paying alimony to his ex-wife, moves in with a new partner who is also working, can the man's ex-wife claim an increase in her alimony because his income has "increased" because of the new partner's income?
Does that make any sense?
That would be a horrible thing to do, regardless of what the law allows. It certainly should not be allowed in my opinion.
No. The law would not allow that.
The ex's income did not incease because of her income. Her income is hers, not his.
Marconia, is this something you are planning on doing, or someone is planning on doing to you?
Hell no - if that were allowed, there would be no such thing as remarriage because no one would ever do it for fear of being raked over the coals in court again.
People should put more energy into figuring out an honorable way to earn their own money instead of trying to think of ways to try to get their hands on someone else's!
Depending on the jurisdiction, the answer may be yes or no. It seems to be more likely to be yes in relation to child support vs. alimony, and the decision has to do with decreased living costs for the non-custodial parent as they are now sharing costs.
