Setanta

"free, secular & compulsory"
That's what was the clearly stated goal of education in this country. But, as a result of political expediency, you can see what's happened. Bit by bit the ideal was compromised & now look at the mess we're stuck with! We supporters of public education fought the changes & lost. Very demoralizing & at enormous cost to the public education sector. Now clawing back the small "reforms" Labor is proposing looks like a revolution. Very, very sad.

As Mr Howard constantly tells us, going private or public is all about choice:

Well, Miss Olga, my oracle of Ozzian politics, is there currently a reasonable estimate of the chances of the respective parties and party leaders, as of now?

Apparently it's neck & neck b/n the Coalition & Labor, setanta. Labor didn't gain any mileage from their tax policy last week, as hoped. The party to watch is the Greens. Their preferences look like they may decide who governs. They polled surprisingly well last time & look like doing so again. Watch out for some really nasty anti-Greens stuff as the election draws closer. We've already had a dose of this already.

Now I hope you're not talking to me while you're meant to be working for the man, setanta! Laughing Tut, tut!

What I meant to say just now, but didn't, was that the Greens' preferences could decide the election outcome. (but don't go looking, I changed it! Too embarrassed to read the mish-mash I actually wrote! Embarrassed Which makes me privately wonder: am I going a wee bit senile? Confused Or should I just accept that nothing I say after midnight is going to make sense?)

I'll take this one.....

Pendulam
Here's the 'pendulam' (not pudendum) for the House of Representatives. The seats at the bottom are the ones that count. If the Coalition were to lose 8 of them, they will have to form a minority government with an independent or two. If it slips even further to the ALP then they may be able to do that themselves, too far over and the ALP wins outright.

The Senate is a different matter.

I was looking at this:

Too bad, then . . . let's hope Miss Olga is right about the Greens, and those boys and girls see their way clear to helping Labor form a government . . .
