I've been with a wonderful man for 3 years now , and we have a one year old baby together. I'm 8 years older than him such doesn't seem to be an issue . My problem is I'm not sure he's ever going to propose. He says he wants to get married but wants it to be a suprise not just the typical next step , he also says he can't afford a ring are these excuses? He is m nd of eccentric so I can almsost believe the suprise element but I'm starting to wonder if I'm fooling mmyself..any advice?

Why don't you surprise him by proposing to him?
If you're 8 years older than him, it's not like you're an innocent maiden waiting for the big strong man to make everything wonderful.
You're both grown adults. Just discuss marriage. You don't need a ring to get married.

A ring? A ring is a symbol that matters more to some people than others, but in any case doesn't need to be expensive.
