From the age of 10. But I didn't come back to live here till I was 50.

Shall I wave to you as I whizz past you in the morning?

I'll be in Glastonbury - but yes, wave.

Do you travel this way often?

Do you think British education is OK or bad?

From what I've seen, I think it has some strengths compared to US. Depending on the school, US has more variation in the upper level courses they offer, but although the British system offers less variety, they seem to go into greater depth. That appeals to me, and my children seem to like school more here.

What is your opinion on the schools?

I'm a little out of touch, and of course rural schools are very different from those in the inner cities. My sons were well enough educated but I feel that the calibre of people choosing to teach has gone down because of the discipline problems in so many schools. But part of me thinks that school is rubbish, that most of these children should be elsewhere or learning something else - I was at a progressive school, not just an exam factory.

Sorry I took so long - I was trying to come up with a really good acronym Smile

My son is l6 and my daughter is l3.

I agree with what you stated. Sad truth is that in US - it's even more of a grinding rut. You get on a track and you can't get off if University is your aim.

21, 23, 26 Still on the beaten track - but the eldest is giving up work for a while and I have a feeling the second will too - in order to live. The rat-race is ghastly. Why do we let the toad Work/Squat on our life?

Can you work parttime at what you do?

I don't know if they job-share for teachers here or not. Do you? It was almost impossible to get a part-time teaching position in the US. I tend to let my work consume me - so I am enjoying being foot-loose and fancy free for the moment - although I do miss interacting with the students.

Do you work full time?

Ah, no. I am living off royalties and a widow's pension and enjoying the freedom hugely. I'm a sleeping partner in a school of English too, which gives me as much interest as I want. I think you should be able to get part-time teaching -

what is your subject?

I teach special needs. In the US, I was working with upper level students who had learning disabilities. These were students who had average and often above average IQ's but weren't functioning in school for whatever reason. I tutored Geometry and Algebra.

Old enough to know better.
Young enough to do it anyway.

Spendius, all I can say is I view this encounter with amusment and giddy joy. For some reason, Pragmatic always seems to be getting irritated with me. I usually don't have that affect on females. Well not until she's known me for a few years at least. (and I'll be going back to work now, so this is for anyone):

I can.

For anyone: Have you ever went through a period in life where you made a conscious effort not to fall in love, or get in a relationship etc? Where you actually avoided it?
