The name, I think. It isn't very literary.
Why do you use bourgeois as an insult?
I didn't. I just stated a sociological fact. I prefer them "in the raw". No frills. What you see is what you get.
Do you prefer "bourgeois" to "bourgeoise" or to "petite bourgoise"?
Depends on the sex of the person or gender of the thing. Petit bourgeois is pretty different to bourgeois, à mon avis. Petit bourgeois is lace curtains and pursed lips; bourgeois is just most urban dwellers who are educated.
If 'what you see is what you get' is your philosophy, why do you conceal so much about yourself?
Noone's ever attributed
that particular tendency to me before.

(Sorry Clary, couldn't resist).
Do you like black tulips? (I'm curious because they're my daughter's favorite flower).
They are curious, secretive and unusual, but actually I think I prefer the brilliant red ones, they are the essence of life at this time of year and my house is full of them!
It's interesting how few people visit this thread, wouldn't you say - do they all have something to hide?
I wouldn't go so far as saying "interesting" but it might be that people are afraid that they can't match your wit and wicked sense of humour.
Do you like pagan dance festivals at the solstice?
I've enjoyed watching them, but have never actually participated in one.
Did you know that The Who (and rumor has it Bruce Springsteen) are going to be at Glastonbury festival this summer?
No, I wouldn't know that because I don't follow such things.
What do you think of the Glastonbury Festival?
I'm dying to go. I've tried every year I've been here to get tickets and haven't been able to so far. This is supposedly the last one - as far as Michael Eavis is concerned- anyway. Someone else may take it on, of course, but as this is his last- he's pledged to make it the biggest and best. I just hope it doesn't rain- like it did last year and flood everyone out. But yeah, I know a lot of the neighboring villages, farms, etc. have a problem with it-but it'd be right up there in terms of memorable experiences for me. I like the whole vibe of Glastonbury- people, legends, etc.
Do you have a favorite village/historical site/area of natural beauty that you find yourself returning to again and again?
Not really. I enjoy new places more. I always wave to Stonehenge when i pass but it used to be embraceable and now you are kept at a distance. Living in such a scenic area, I do go to many places over and over again, but I wouldn't say it's a compulsion. I think I like gardens best: Dartington Hall Gardens, Stourhead Gardens, Coleton Fishacre are all worthy of multiple visits.
Do you find Glastonbury Tor mysterious and spiritual?
It's just another small hill to me. But there is something mysterious and presumably spiritual about the hype surrounding it.
Have you got Pagan inclinations?
Absolutely none, I am a rationalist and find the word spiritual means nothing to me.
Do you have a lot of friends?
Quite a few.
Is it spring at your place yet?
Well, I thought it was, as there are crocuses and daffodils about, but there was quite a lot of snow in London last night, so maybe I spoke too soon.
Is there a spring with you?
No, we're in the middle of summer with very high temperatures.
Do you drive when the roads are covered in snow?
snow?? wats that?? never done that
did any one miss my long absence?
Actually, I was thinking just the other day, "I wonder what ever happened to Soul Collector" - seriously- because even though it's kind of sinister, in one way, but not in another- I like your screenname.
But I do that all the time. I also wonder what happened to people like Codeborg, and Cola and that person named Pinky hibea -I think that's how you spell it (among others). Pinky had had a topic one time entitled "Would you miss me if I was gone?" I guess the answer (for me at least) turned out to be, "Yes".
Have you spent the time away doing anything interesting? What does your screen name mean to you? How did you come to choose it?
Yes I did. I go to the beach every day for a swim and a walk, good exercise. My Avatar represents the sport I follow avidly, and my name reflect my heritage. Beyond the black stump is where I now live downunder.
The name Aidan intrigues me. Are you related to or named yourself after Saint Aidan of Lindisfarne, the Irish Apostle of Northumbria (died 651), the founder and first bishop of the monastery on the island of Lindisfarne in England?
Dutchy- I like the name Aidan too. I wish I could say it was such a conscious or learned choice on my part. I actually tried to use my own name first, but it was already taken, although I've never, ever seen it used actively as a screen name. So I thought of Aidan, which I first heard when a friend of mine chose that for her daughter's name (before it became as popular as it is now) about twenty years ago. I know it's a fairly common Irish name (for boys at least), but in America, at that time, it was very unusual. I actually associated it more with the Hebrew (from the sound of it) until I learned of its origins.
Do you know how much I envy you swimming in the ocean every day?
If you love the sea as much as I do I can share your envy. A lovely 30 degrees today with not a cloud in the sky, just to rub it in a little.
I assume you live in the US, wintertime now, but there must be a time of the year when you can enjoy the ocean as well?
