When I read your previous post my first response was "wow, that must be hard and confusing to deal with". It appears you are a strong woman to realize, admit, talk and try to deal with what you are going through. I admire that in a person.
To answer your question, no, I didn't get any Christmas gifts. I have my dog and that is all I want.
Good luck and I hope your New Year brings everything you need and want.

In terms my crazy Christmas eve, sometimes I just feel the need to confess what an idiot I can be- because I really do believe that confession is good for the soul. And Mathos' question about Christmas cheer was just sitting there begging for a response. I decided to give an honest one.

I like my dog too - she's worth more than any past, present or future Christmas gifts put together to me. She's always on my side - you can't beat that.
Thanks for your good wishes for the New Year.

soulcollector - I made a resolution last year that I'll never make another resolution. I like remaining open to whatever might present itself in my life.
How do you feel about resolutions?

Resolutions, new year or other, have now almost acquired a reputation for being so breakable that they have lost their significance. I find a "looking back, looking ahead" approach more enlightening and inspiring than superficial resolutions. I look forward to becoming a better person in terms of character this year and want to be build such a strong base that can last for the rest of my life.

What are you looking forward to?

Every day is something to look forward to. What is nicer than just waking up and simply being here? We get along pretty well in the occidental world, when you look around and see the real needs for the people living in poorly developed countries, you might just realise how fortunate we are. There are however many with problems, be it poverty, illness or any concern of their own, you cannot avoid real life, it's not all sugar and spice at all. It is all part of the evolutionary staircase.

What part of history or geographical mode would you place our better progress in development to?

Ah.. yes it is, as far as time is considered. It is set in that way.
The New itself is a consideration, a reason for celebration.

Why do you think people consider the New year to be auspicious for making dozens of resolutions? Why not break a habit the moment you feel tis wrong, why not make decisions instantly (ofcourse after thinking about it, why wait till a New Year)?

A question of focus, I suppose. Most people just chug along unwittingly, busy with other things, and don't look at themselves objectively. At least, that's the theory. It seems wrong to me to have new year just at the turn of the year, the darkest day over - when the traditional new year in Europe and Asia was the start of spring equinox, now enshrined in Easter and the beginning of the astrological year, or the Asian lunar new year. New habits are encouraged at this time - and in China you must pay your debts by new year and wear a whole new wardrobe. What do you think?

I agree Clary. But what I was concerned about was different. When a person wants to do something, for example breaking a habit or starting a good one, it ought to be done immediately. The postponement of it, to be resolved for on New year's eve is the main cause for the failure of most resolutions. The gravity of the original feeling is irretrievable. But if one chooses to think of a resolution on New year's eve tis a different issue altogether. What do you think ?

Yes, in general that's true. You have to seize the moment. Yesterday I was talking to my youngest son about his resolutions - he's a uni student - and he said he'd gradually let himself slip into bad work habits, like sleeping too long and socialising too much, and this was a sort of wake-up call for him - he intends to get into a good routine, and also, music to a mother's ears, learn to cook!

Have you any resolutions - for new year or ongoing?

Yes.

Not to leave any X, Ys or Zs on the Acronym Game.

Don't you think that's considerate of me?

As a uni student my resolutions are similar to your son's (cooking is a great idea Exclamation ) I am also considering physical and spiritual fitness. Smile

Good, though relatively tame; but I have a foul cold and the headache is nothing to do with too much alcohol!

Don't you find X, Y and Z quite invigorating, especially in comparison to the dreary E and N?
