Retreat?Hell no.Withdraw when it is pacified and a proper civilised government has been installed.

And yes, Rocky Mountain Oysters are fried. Taste like chicken, so now, I eat chicken instead.

I'm afraid Tico that it is the team I bet on.I know all about how cynical that is from arguments in the pub about this issue but the principles of capitalism over-ride club loyalties. And I've learned a great deal about football, the beautiful game, in the process. The players are the best there is but they are millionaire sandwich board men who flit from club to club at the drop of a bucket full of dough.Which doesn't mean they are not trying. They are trying alright.Busting a gut.I find the spectacle good to watch. And a bet creams it up.

I presume RM oysters to be a gob of phlemg.Or somesuch.

Was I being far fetched?

I have spent an hour reading the last thirty pages of this thread and my conclusion, which is inescapable,is that there are almost no posts which could be said to exclude anybody.

The argument yesterday was a load of rubbish and what motives might have inspired it are beyond me.

Calamity Jane has gracefully apologised for something that is nothing other than a figment of various imaginations and her apology was completely unnecessary.

How about this from pragmatic-

Quote:
You're right I haven't been around here lately.

So somebody who hasn't been around just jumps in with a piece of rubbish and has caused consternation and the thread to grind to a halt because two others joined in with more rubbish. And Cal has been upset for nothing.

I think, for what that's worth, that Questions threaders and forum management should give a big ovation for pragmatic,Clary and Francis for seemingly having achieved what they obviously set out to do.Which,I presume, is to return the thread to the nursery class or close it and I call upon those adults who value debates above the level of daily menus and other such meaninglessness to get on the thread and restore it to health.

Trivia may mean unimportant things but it is still a vehicle for adult discourse when handled properly by intelligent people who have a smile on their face.

Or will the long-face,po-faced,humour free be allowed an easy victory?

Was I being far-fetched is the last question OR

What is your favorite soccer team from Tico.

There must be at least 50,000 ways of answering both and then asking a completely unrelated question.

Spendius - Even though you have the advantage of the language, I will not let you put that crap on me.
You maybe have some literary references and use them profusely, but in my view it serves to mask a lack of personal thinking and some other flaws.
Experience in life would have taught you a little respect to other people's opinion.
Obviously it's not the case.
My only goal was to make touch the point without being too harsh.
As you told yourself, you never considered otherwise, I mean trying to comprehend the others.
It's a piece of crap considering I want a meaningless game. But I still want it open to everybody.
There's a lot of philosophy and debate threads for "superior minds" as you imply.
And there's another piece of crap considering I was wanting a Pyrrhus victory.
For once I make this quote mine:"A combattre sans péril, on triomphe sans gloire".
As you want it to be an adult discourse get rid of, I'll quote you, "impulsive conclusions incorrectly inferred".

Can't you see I'm still smiling?

I would envisage nothing else.

But it is a pity that you allow yourself to descend to the level of personal abuse.I don't think I have done.CJ and myself were accused of taking over the thread and that was patent rubbish.I did not impute any personal motives. It is fair enough to describe rubbish as rubbish.

Where on earth do you get the idea that I don't take other people's views into account?

Spendius - Again, even with the advantage of you being a native speaker of the language we are using, I'll not modify the meaning I, as limited as my knowledge can be, perceive in the words you have employed when addressing other's.
That's not descending to the level of personal abuse but it's fair enough describing crap as crap.
Where I get the idea? Just doing as yourself, reading the last pages.

Is it your intention to monopolize this thread again in a personal conflict or can you open a private thread to do so?

Forget it mate.It isn't worth it.We are talking past each other.Other threaders can make of it what they will.

I won't be opening any personal thread though.I don't see the point.

Had any outstanding restaurant meals recently?

Yes, I had and more than the outstanding meals sometimes there's an outstanding atmosphere of pleasure and conviviality one can hardly find in other places. That's why I use to go to chosen restaurants.
But I understand one can find such an atmosphere in pubs having been in some myself.

What peculiar things do you appreciate in such places?

The alcohol first. Then the bouncing free-for all conversation and,of course, the ladies showing off.
One also makes useful contacts sometimes. That's rare but when it happens it can fill the net.And I don't drink at home.

This is only from about 10.30 to midnight.

Do you stay out late?

No, not much. I often be home at 8:00 PM. Then I'm at the computer or reading. Not as funny as yourself.

What could I do to spice such a life?

That's easy.Make 10pm to midnight socialising time and stick at it.Nothing happens before then does it?
A wide knowledge of sport is a big plus here. And proper barmaids are essential. It mostly depends though on finance. And a regular bunch of pals.

How would you define a spiced up life?

It comes in cycles. I find I drink less than when I was at uni, but I still go out for a bender now and again. Especially when I see certain mates, you know? I guess on average, I drink less.

Do you always drink the same thing?

Nobody can provide that without knowing much more about you.

Generally speaking if it is advertised it's no good.
Also the spicier the bigger the dangers.

And nothing worthwhile is easy.Thinking otherwise seems to me to be of the order of a plague.

Next are personal factors such as money, attitude and time of life.

It is no good having a spicy life and being burned out at thirty. So pacing is important. And so is diet and physical fitness.

And-big one this-women's (not relatives) approval. They are the judge and they are merciless and always right.

And there's a lot more to it than that. And it's still impossible.

If you are good play hard to get and if you are not good blame yourself.

How's that for a start?

Backlog of questions here - last first - sounds a spicier life for the males of the population.
Two - no I don't always drink the same thing, and nothing would annoy me more than the would-be obsequious waiter offering me my usual! I know they are trained to do this in the top establishments - I'd like to know who really likes it - and who likes their wine being topped up all the time during a meal? (subsidiary question)

Three - lottery win. There can be few things more satisfying than enabling people to start their own company, following their dream. I would love to travel the world assessing projects and giving a few thousand here and there to the little guys.

What do you think about aid, trade, and the developing world?
