I'm thinking a bit like you about andy, Spendi. I decided to take 'her' at face value. I guess I want to believe all here are honest and 'above board'.

I have done that type of research and would certainly never compromise who I am for such. I know you think it 'gobbly-dee gook', Spendi- but SOME is actually beneficial or at least discovers something about human behavior.
I'm really disappointed. Well, at least I can forget being upset over a stupid 'cat fight' that was invented by a male mind! OY! I was really wondering what was up with her/aidan, thinking there was a problem. Probably just riling me for a reaction. Oh, well, Se la vie! (Remember too that he was using his sister-in-law to do some of the interacting.)

Sorry, I'm not there to monitor. What sport, Spendi-?

Cricket,loverly cricket

At Lords there I saw it.

That's a bit of a song.

Wouldn't it be great if the US had a great test match side?

I'd love to see it!

England doesn't play American football, right? Rugby the closest thing?

At the top level the US plays only soccer of the big games here and while you have improved in recent years at that, which we are glad to see,you have a way to go.

In cricket the ball doesn't have to be delivered full pitch as it does in baseball. This leads to enormous subtlety.

In your football(rugby) you allow the forward pass which we don't.

These two differences result in our comparable games having evolved to where they are now.

We think you made a mistake in the beginning by trying to put some distance between yourselves an us.All that independence thing.

Still-here we are.

Is baseball enthralling like today's cricket is?

That depends, Jane. Have you read aidan/andy's post on this and several of the other threads?

Baseball can be as exciting to watch as paint drying at times, especially on tv. I like live games. We have a minor league team that's pretty good. As far as professional ball, I prefer to watch the pennant races and world series and all-star games.
Do you like lacrosse?

Oh yeah, now I did. What to make of all this?
I think Aiden has an ego problem. If he/she indeed is
a doctoral student, why not do the thesis and be quiet
about it? Oh no, one has to seek attention (one hasn't
gotten enough of) and place a silly post in several
topics to make oneself more interesting.

Sorry Aidan, you have come and gone, and not make
a dent on a2k - what a pitty.

Have fun at the beach devriesj....

Baseball is utterly boring - what's cricket again?

They say that cricket is impossible to explain. And it probably is.The listener gets all mixed up.

But it has everything even,on occasion, naked lady streakers. It tests every aspect of a sportsman's repetoire. Those who have played it and watched it all their lives cannot imagine how it could be further perfected. And yet it continues to improve and the TV coverage is on a level all of it's own in any game or sport. It is a bit like the head of the Civil Service described his job-intense boredom punctuated by orgies.
There's a lot of drinking going on too.

Do you not recieve our TV programmes?

No, we don't ! PBS buys some of the british comedy
and repeats it on a yearly basis (Are you being served,
Hyacinth, To the Manor born etc.) and we have an
A&E channel that brought "Absolutely Fabulous" a few years
back. n

I wish we could see british TV, it's so much fun.

How many channels do you have there?

With the best kit over a thousand I gather. And some of them can be split up.Just press the red button and one channel becomes six. It's magic.
I've watched some of your sports coverage and I can tell you for sure that you are amateurs at that side of things. If a young lad watches cricket on TV for his adolescence he will emerge as if he had been to a posh school.
I think it has a lot to do with English grass. Our green and pleasant. There is something about lawns that baffles. They vary so much.

You will wear your Armstrong bracelet tomorrow won't you?

I don't like to watch sports on TV except soccer.
English grass? Well our grass is pretty good to, but it takes
a lot to maintain and water is rather expensive here, to
constantly water the lawn.

Hehe, I won't wear the bracelet - I just bought it for the
good cause (cancer). It is a yellow rubber bracelet and
not very comfortable to wear, as most jewelery are. I
usually only wear a watch and some earrings - that's it.

I haven't watched the Tour de France either, except for
a couple of minutes, when the dog stepped on the remote
control and switched the channel to the Tour de France Mr. Green

So you play cricket?

I used to but it is very time consuming.I have bowled a good number of maiden overs in my prime though.
I better explain that-a maiden over is when a bowler bowls (pitches) an over, which is six legitimate deliveries, without conceding any runs.If he bowls an illegal ball the batsmen have a free hit and are credited with any runs they score but they can't be out unless they are run out.

There are a number of reasons why a delivery may be declared illegal by the umpire who shouts "No ball" and lifts his arm to the horizontal position at right angles to the pitch to signal it to those interested. If the batsman gets the signal quickly enough, which he usually doesn't at 90mph,he generally has a baseball slog which he wouldn't dare risk with a legitimate ball unless he is in a tight run chase or has a rush of blood.

What sport are you best at?

Me? Puh, I don't really play sports any longer. I used to
love ice skating and was pretty good at it, but two years
ago, when I tried to teach litte Jane ice skating, someone
bumped into me, I fell backwards, and injured my ellbow
pretty badly (fracture). So I took the hint and limited it
to excercising like nordic walking, working out in the gym
and the likes. Unfortunatley I'm lazy by nature, so I
really have to force myself to do something.

Do you ride horses?

I have done but I didn't take to it after being bucked off a few times.I can take a hint or as we say, maybe you do,-"a nod's as good as a wink to a blind horse."English idiom eh?

What don't you have to force yourself to do?

Hello Jaaf, and welcome to the game.
What I always wanted to do, and never have? Hm, I honestly cannot think of anything right now. I pretty much
have done what I set out to do.

Yes, spendius, I fell of a horse once too, never went back on.

I have to force myself to do everyday chores, like going
to the groceries, to the bank and all the little nitwit things.

You?

Hi JAAF.

I have always wanted to make bookies weep but haven't managed it yet.Just a scowl now and again.

Cal-Nothing.I'm well organised.Chatting ladies up is a bit of a chore.

Why do ladies insist on the chat-up ritual?

Haha, because that's something we women understand - chatting! And men are on our turf so to speak, thus we
can better judge if he could possibly be a keeper or a loser.
If you're a good listener and sympathetic to their causes,
you've won half the battle.

Pub chat shouldn't be that difficult though, right?

It isn't easy. The noise is often overpowering. And women are more stroppy than they were and getting worse by the day.It is hard to know what they want apart from a well off butler of course. And women know what men want so they have the upper hand.

It's a bit of a riddle don't you think?
