No choice. But it is only better than nothing.

But people are much of a muchness even though they might think they are unique individualists so one can know most people quite well from one's experiences with others particularly in certain respects. The odd thing is that those aspects of people one feels one knows quite well are always the ones they are most reticent about and it is the trivial things they are open about and which hardly matter at all. Thus many superficial relationships exist.Usually, the more hyperbole there is relating to relationships the more superficial they are.

Would you agree with that?

Not necessarily.

What exactly do you mean by hyperbole? (as it would relate to relationships - I know the definition of the word).

Yes, devriesj, she's in summer camp again. I'm not worried
about the members here, but there is usually an abundance
of people just reading, and one never knows who they are.
Perhaps I'm just paranoid, but I had a bad experience once,
and naturally that comes to mind, when being too open.

spendius, it has nothing to do with hiding things or trying
to be unique, it's just a simple precaution.

Yeah, what's hyperbole?

Again, I agree, Jane.

While I find the statement "The more things change, the more they stay the same", to be relevant, I don't necessarily think it deals so much with people. Yes, there is a certain sameness we all share, but each individual has his/her own unique experiences such that even two people experiencing the same thing may interpret it or view it completely differently. There is no one person EXACTLY like another.

Would you agree with that?

Gee whiz. Two of you don't know hyperbole.Excess-exaggeration.Not intented to be taken literally when employed by ironists but often is.Overblown.
Comes from a mathematical figure.
Examples galore.Greetings cards of all types.
Has superficiality embedded.Generally used for reassurance or self persuasion.
Imagine you work for a valentine card firm composing the verses and messages.Do a few dozen-you will soon see the hollowness.

(for aidan-Lauzan eschews hyperbole)

Did you really not know?

No spendius! Overzealous is more commonly used, I guess.
Yes, devriesj, I do see the difference in each individual,
altough I have to admit, that I put them in certain categories, once they're established, but nevertheless,
I can sub-categorize as well Mr. Green

spendius, the "Oberlehrer" as we would say. Know-it-all
in English. Why do you see the muchness in us?

Spendi - will you be more specific? Is this a commentary on my depiction of him. I told you you can be honest with me, if I mess up.

Don't you believe me?

Experience I'm afraid. Not just my own.I observe how intoxicated men slowly work towards lowest common denominators as the evening wears on as if all other differences drop away.It is as plain as day.I call my fictional pub The Cock and Wallet on the basis that women see us in a similar fashion. That seems as plain as day as well.

It is as well to understand human nature in order to get the best out of it.Hyperbolic flights of fancy word play are mere froth. One can see actresses and actors doing those from cold anytime you turn the tv on.

Do you think those actresses mean it?

Laughing Laughing Laughing The cock and wallet, huh? Now that's about as cynical as you can get. What's the matter today, Spendi? You're in a bad mood, I can tell. The narrators of our story are narrators. They have to use hyperbole to make it interesting- to keep readers reading.

Don't you agree with that?

We're writing a story on the original writing thread based on some characters Spendius introduced into the sentence thread. We kind of got asked politely to leave there and do it in original writing. I't's kind of a spoof of Dangerous Liaisons. Anyway - the characters are very sexually attracted to each other and I think Spendius might be trying to say that he thinks I went over the top with my description of Lady Isabella's lust for Lauzan. But as per usual with Spendius - I can't tell. He likes to talk in riddles, and I only understand plain, straightforward declarative sentences.

Are you as confused as I am now?

You are - and by the way, I haven't looked, but have you done your little writing assignment over there yet. Don't want to sound like too much of a teacher - even though that's what I am - but I'm wondering if you have a little case of writer's block.

Do you?

Have a look.

I never have writer's block as you call it.A proper writer never gets anything like that.He might get exhausted or bored with a thing or,much more likely, get interested in something else.I have always given up things for the something else. The damn world is just so fascinating.

If one of you ladies jumps in here with "Where are you going for your holidays?" your interest in the above will vanish like a puff of ---go on--find a word instead of the cliched smoke. You'll all be gone for the evening then.

Won't you?

No.I'm not doing Romance.aidan is in charge of that side of things. It is more fitting I feel.

What is cynical about the Cock and Wallet.I have even rung a brewery up,years ago,to suggest it for a pub in a fast area.It will arrive one day.The principle is that we men go in with both and come out with neither. It's a symbol.

And why would that suggest I am in a bad mood. For the last of lots of times (you would have said umpteenth-cliche-out) I am never in a bad mood.

Do you reject the symbol?
