adjective and adverb

(1) Dhaka, standing by the side of Burigonga, is the capital of Bangladesh.

Here '-ing' has been added to the word 'stand'.

Let's consider the following sentences:

2) Unaided, man can not fly.

3) Man, unaided, can not fly.

Are these sentences OK? I knew that present participle can be used after and before subject to describe something about subject ( as in sentence 1). But in sentence 2 and 3 participle ending with -ed has been used. Is it (unaided) modifying subject? If it modifies subject, it will be considered as adjective. But if it modifies 'fly', it should be considered as adverb. I am not sure whether it is adverb or adjective.

I am not familiar with these types (sentence 2 and 3) of sentences. Please, give me some examples of these types of sentences, if sentence 2 and 3 are grammatically correct?

Thanks to all.
